Receipts, vouchers and notes

Payment documents record money moving in or out and adjust what is owed. VyaparKit's receipts mark invoices paid, vouchers record what you paid vendors and staff, and credit or debit notes correct an invoice after it is issued. Each one updates the customer or vendor ledger the moment it is created.

About payments on VyaparKit

A receipt is proof for your customer and a record for you. A voucher is the same thing for money you pay out. Credit and debit notes are how GST law lets you change an invoice that has already been issued, for returns, discounts, rate corrections or extra charges, without cancelling it.

Because these documents post to the ledger, the customer ledger, outstanding statement and payables report stay correct without any bookkeeping. Record a receipt against an invoice and it turns Paid or Partial; raise a credit note and the balance drops. Free accounts get 5 payment documents a month.

Payments: common questions

Do I need to issue a receipt for a UPI payment?
Not legally, since the UPI transaction is itself a record, but customers expect one and it keeps your ledger accurate. VyaparKit lets you record the UPI reference on the receipt and share it on WhatsApp in one tap.
When should I use a credit note instead of editing the invoice?
Once an invoice has been sent, especially if it is in a GST return, use a credit note. It references the original invoice number and date as Section 34 requires and reduces the customer's balance while keeping the audit trail.
What is the difference between a payment voucher and an expense voucher?
A payment voucher records a payment to a vendor, usually against a purchase bill. An expense voucher records a business expense with a category (fuel, rent, office supplies) and feeds the expenses report, even when no bill exists.
