Sales Documents: common questions
- What is the difference between a quotation and an estimate?
- A quotation is a firm offer at a stated price, usually valid for a period. An estimate is an approximation that may change once the work is scoped. Use quotations for products with known prices and estimates for repair or project work.
- Is a delivery challan enough to transport goods?
- For job work, goods on approval and similar cases under Rule 55, yes, with an e-way bill where the consignment exceeds ₹50,000. For a regular sale, issue a tax invoice at or before dispatch; the challan alone does not transfer ownership.
- Can I convert a quotation to an invoice after the customer accepts?
- Yes. Open the quotation, choose Convert, and pick Invoice or Sales Order. The new document is pre-filled and linked back to the quotation, so you can see the chain later.
