About the non-gst invoice tool
Not every business in India charges GST. A tailor with ₹12 lakh turnover, a tuition centre, a composition dealer paying tax at a flat rate, or a trader in exempt goods like vegetables, milk and unbranded atta must still give customers a bill, but that bill cannot show CGST, SGST or IGST. Under the GST rules this document is a bill of supply, and for an unregistered business it is simply an invoice without tax. It records what was sold, for how much, and to whom.
The usual mistake is reusing a GST invoice template and leaving the tax columns at zero or, worse, charging GST without being registered, which is an offence. Handwritten bill books get lost and totals are miscalculated. VyaparKit's non-GST invoice has no tax columns at all, so there is nothing to get wrong. It numbers each bill in financial-year order, applies per-line and overall discounts, rounds off and writes the amount in words.
Because the invoice lives in your account, it still updates the customer's ledger and reduces stock for saved items. You can create a delivery challan or a payment receipt from it in one click, share it as a link with a UPI QR for the exact amount, and later pull a customer statement to see what is unpaid. Free accounts include 5 invoices a month with no card.

Who uses the non-gst invoice
Boutique below the registration threshold
A Jaipur boutique with ₹15 lakh annual sales bills customers without GST, keeps every invoice numbered, and shares a UPI link for payment.
Composition dealer running a restaurant
Composition restaurants pay tax at a flat rate and cannot charge it to customers; they issue a bill of supply for every table.
Fruit and vegetable supplier
A supplier selling fresh produce to hotels issues bills of supply, since these goods are exempt, and tracks hotel balances in the customer ledger.
Home tuition and coaching
Coaching teachers below ₹20 lakh turnover give parents a simple monthly invoice with fee, discount and amount in words.
Non-GST Invoice: frequently asked questions
- What is a bill of supply?
- A bill of supply is the GST document issued instead of a tax invoice when no tax can be charged: by composition scheme dealers, and by any registered supplier for exempt goods or services. Rule 49 lists its contents. It looks like an invoice but carries no CGST, SGST or IGST amounts.
- Can an unregistered business issue an invoice?
- Yes. A business that is not registered under GST can and should issue invoices for its sales; it simply must not charge or mention GST. The invoice should carry your business name, address, a serial number, date, customer details, items and amount. Registration becomes compulsory once turnover crosses the threshold.
- What is the GST registration threshold in India?
- For most states registration is compulsory when aggregate turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services. Special category states such as those in the north-east have lower limits of ₹20 lakh and ₹10 lakh. Inter-state supply of goods and selling through e-commerce operators need registration regardless of turnover. Check with your CA for your case.
- Is it illegal to charge GST without a GSTIN?
- Yes. Collecting GST without being registered is an offence under Section 32 of the CGST Act and the amount collected must be deposited with the government along with penalties. Use a non-GST invoice until you are registered, and switch to the GST invoice tool once you have your GSTIN.
- Should a composition dealer mention anything special on the bill?
- A composition dealer's bill of supply must state 'composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies' and carry the dealer's GSTIN. Add this line in the notes or terms so it prints on every bill. The dealer also cannot pass on input tax credit to the buyer.
- Does a non-GST invoice count against my free invoice limit?
- Yes. Free accounts include 5 invoices a month across GST, non-GST, tax, proforma, commercial and service invoices, resetting on the 1st. If you bill more often, Pro at ₹2,500 a year makes invoices unlimited and removes the Made with VyaparKit line from PDFs.
