UPI Payment Link Generator
Create a UPI payment link with amount and note. Share on WhatsApp, email or SMS.
In short
A UPI payment link is a upi://pay URL containing your UPI ID, payee name, optional amount and note. When tapped on a phone, it opens the payer's UPI app such as GPay, PhonePe or Paytm with the details filled in. The UPI Payment Link Generator builds the link in your browser so you can copy it into WhatsApp, SMS or email and ask for the exact amount.
Payment link
Enter a valid UPI ID like name@okhdfcbank or 9876543210@ybl.
Does this work on desktop?
upi:// links only open on phones with a UPI app. On desktop, share the link or generate a UPI QR code instead.
Is it safe?
The link only contains your UPI ID, name and amount. Nobody can pull money from your account with it.
About the upi payment link generator tool
A UPI payment link is the text form of a UPI QR code. Instead of asking a customer to scan, you send them a link such as upi://pay?pa=shop@okaxis&pn=Sharma%20Store&am=1250&tn=Invoice%2042 and their phone opens whichever UPI app they use, with the payee and amount already filled. Sellers on WhatsApp and Instagram, tutors collecting fees, and freelancers chasing invoices use it because it removes the step of typing an ID and an amount, and the note lands in both parties' transaction history.
Sharing a UPI ID as plain text invites typos and wrong amounts, and payments arrive with no reference, so matching them to invoices later is guesswork. Payment apps' own collect requests expire, need the customer's number, and some customers ignore them. This tool assembles a correctly encoded link with the amount and a note of up to 50 characters, and a Copy link button puts it on your clipboard for WhatsApp, SMS or email. Nothing is stored and no account is required.
Every VyaparKit invoice, receipt and payment due slip share page already includes a Pay via UPI button and QR built the same way, so customers who open an invoice link on their phone can pay the exact balance in two taps.
How to create a UPI payment link
- 1
Enter your UPI ID
Type your VPA in Your UPI ID, for example shop@okaxis. Copy it from your UPI app profile to avoid mistakes; a wrong ID sends the customer's payment elsewhere.
- 2
Add the payee name
Fill in Payee name as you want it shown on the customer's payment screen, usually your shop or trade name.
- 3
Set the amount and note
Enter the Amount to request an exact figure, or leave it blank so the payer types one. Add a Note such as Invoice #42 so the payment carries a reference in both statements.
- 4
Copy the link
Click Copy link and paste it into a WhatsApp message, SMS or email. On a phone the link opens the payer's UPI app; on desktop they can scan the matching UPI QR instead.
What the UPI link contains
- Scheme upi://pay, recognised by every NPCI-certified UPI app on Android and iOS
- pa: payee VPA, the only mandatory parameter
- pn: payee name, URL-encoded (spaces become %20)
- am: amount in rupees with up to two decimals; omit for an open amount
- tn: transaction note, up to 50 characters, shown to the payer and stored in the transaction
- cu: currency, INR
- The link works in WhatsApp, SMS and email on phones; on a desktop browser it does nothing, so also share a QR for laptop users
- Per-transaction UPI limits (commonly ₹1 lakh, higher for some categories) are set by NPCI and your bank
Who uses the upi payment link generator
WhatsApp and Instagram sellers
Send the customer a link for the exact order total with the order number in the note, and see the same reference in your bank statement when the credit lands.
Tutors and coaching classes
Message parents a link for the month's fee with the student's name in the note, replacing reminders that say please pay whenever convenient.
Freelancers and consultants
Paste the link under the invoice PDF in an email so a client on their phone can pay without opening net banking.
Societies and clubs
Collect maintenance or membership dues by broadcasting a link with a fixed amount, so every payment arrives for the same figure with a common note.
UPI Payment Link Generator: frequently asked questions
- Does a UPI payment link work in WhatsApp?
- Yes on phones. WhatsApp shows upi:// links as tappable, and tapping opens the recipient's default UPI app with your details filled. If WhatsApp on some versions does not make the link clickable, the customer can long-press and copy it, or you can send the UPI QR image as a fallback.
- Can the customer change the amount in a UPI link?
- In most apps, an amount set in the link is shown as fixed and the payer confirms it, though a few apps allow editing before payment. Treat the am parameter as a strong default rather than a lock, and check the credited amount against the invoice. Leave the amount blank if you want the payer to choose.
- Why does the link not open anything on my laptop?
- upi:// is a mobile app scheme; desktop browsers have no UPI app to hand it to, so nothing happens. For customers on a computer, send the UPI QR image so they can scan it with their phone, or use VyaparKit's invoice share page which shows both the button and the QR.
- Is a UPI link safer than sharing my UPI ID as text?
- It is equally safe for you, since a link only lets someone pay you, never pull money from your account. It is safer for the customer, because the payee name and amount are pre-filled and reviewed in their own app before entering the PIN, which reduces mistakes. Never share your UPI PIN with anyone.
- Does the payment link expire?
- No. Unlike collect requests raised from a payment app, which lapse after a set time, a upi:// link is static text and works whenever it is tapped, as long as the UPI ID is active. If you deactivate the VPA or change apps, generate a new link with the new ID.
