About the product labels tool
Product labels are the small stickers on every jar, packet and box in a shop that tell the customer the price and let the counter scan the item. In India they typically show the item name, the MRP inclusive of all taxes, the selling price if discounted, and a barcode. Packaged goods sold under your own brand also fall under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, which prescribe declarations like net quantity, manufacturer name and month and year of packing.
Making labels in Excel means fiddling with cell sizes until the barcode font behaves, and any change to a price means re-editing rows by hand. Many shops end up hand-writing MRPs, which invites disputes and cannot be scanned. This tool pulls the name, selling price and SKU from your saved items, lets you add MRP, batch and expiry per row, and prints the right number of labels per product on the sheet you choose. A 12 or 13 digit SKU prints as EAN-13 and anything else as Code 128.

How to print product price labels

Add products
Pick from Add a saved product to bring in the name, selling price and SKU, or click Blank label to type a row from scratch. Repeat for every item you need to label.

Fill price, MRP and quantity
Adjust Price, add MRP if it differs, set the SKU / EAN that the barcode should encode, and enter the number of labels in the quantity box. Add Batch and Expiry for food, cosmetics or medicines.

Choose the sheet and options
Select the Label sheet size, then tick Print barcode from SKU / EAN, Show business name and Show HSN code as needed.

Click Generate label sheet. The tool reports the total labels and produces a PDF matched to the chosen sheet.

Declarations for packaged goods (Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011)
- Name and address of the manufacturer, packer or importer
- Common or generic name of the commodity
- Net quantity in standard units (g, kg, ml, l) or by number
- Month and year of manufacture, packing or import
- Retail sale price as MRP Rs ... (inclusive of all taxes)

- For food, FSSAI licence number, ingredients and best-before date are governed separately by FSSAI labelling rules

Product Labels: frequently asked questions
- Is it mandatory to print MRP on product labels?
- For pre-packaged goods sold to consumers, yes. The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules require the retail sale price in the form MRP Rs ... inclusive of all taxes, along with net quantity, manufacturer or packer details and date of packing. Loose goods weighed at the counter are not pre-packaged and do not need an MRP, though you may still print a price.
- Can I sell a product above the MRP printed on the label?
- No. Selling above MRP is an offence under the Legal Metrology Act with penalties for the seller. You may sell below MRP, which is why the label tool has separate Price and MRP fields so you can show a discounted selling price under the printed MRP.
- What is the difference between selling price and MRP on the label?
- MRP is the maximum retail price fixed by the manufacturer or packer, inclusive of all taxes, and is a legal ceiling. Selling price is what you actually charge, which can be equal to or lower than MRP. Showing both on the label makes the discount visible to the customer.
- Should the label show the price with or without GST?
- With GST. MRP by definition includes all taxes, and retail price tags in India are expected to be inclusive so the customer pays what is printed. On the invoice, VyaparKit can back-calculate the taxable value and GST from an inclusive price with the reverse GST calculator.
- How does the barcode on the product label get chosen?
- The tool looks at the SKU / EAN field of each row. If it is 12 or 13 digits it prints an EAN-13 barcode, computing the check digit if needed; any other value prints as Code 128, which billing scanners read equally well. Untick Print barcode from SKU / EAN to print text-only labels.
- Can I add the HSN code and my shop name to the label?
- Yes. Tick Show HSN code to print the HSN saved against the item and Show business name to add your trade name to each label. HSN on the label helps B2B buyers match the item on the tax invoice, and the business name identifies the packer for house brands.
