In short
Add Page Numbers stamps a page number on every page of a PDF in a position and format you choose, such as Page 1 of 10 at the bottom centre. Set a starting number for documents that continue from another file. It is essential for tender bundles, agreements and audit files. VyaparKit numbers the file in memory and never stores it; a free login covers 10 operations a month.

About the add page numbers tool
Tender rules often state that every page of the bid must be numbered and signed. Courts and arbitrators expect paginated bundles. Auditors and bank officers refer to documents by page. A merged PDF of invoices, certificates and annexures has no such numbering, and adding it in Word is impossible for scanned pages. Add Page Numbers puts a consistent number on every page in seconds.
VyaparKit offers six positions (bottom or top, left, centre or right) and formats from a plain number to Page {n} of {total}. The Start from field lets a second volume continue from where the first ended, so a 200-page tender split into two files still reads 1 to 200. Numbers are drawn into the page content, so they print and survive further merging.
The usual sequence is Merge PDF, Reorder PDF Pages, then Add Page Numbers, then Sign PDF to initial each page and Compress PDF before uploading. Page numbers also make it easier to reference a specific invoice in a customer ledger dispute or a purchase bill in a GST notice reply.
How to add page numbers to a PDF in VyaparKit
- 1
Sign in and upload
Log in with Google or email OTP and drop the PDF on the upload box.
- 2
Pick the position
Under Numbering, choose bottom center, bottom right, bottom left, top center, top right or top left.
- 3
Choose the format
Select {n}, {n} / {total}, Page {n}, Page {n} of {total}, or - {n} -. {n} is the page number and {total} the page count.
- 4
Set the start number
Leave Start from at 1, or enter a higher number when this file continues from another volume.
- 5
Apply and download
Click Add page numbers, then Download. The numbers are part of the page content and the file is discarded from memory after serving.
Tips for a good result
- Finish merging, reordering and deleting pages before numbering; numbering is the second-last step before signing.
- Choose a position that does not overlap existing footers; scanned invoices often have text at the bottom, so top right is a safe fallback.
- Page {n} of {total} is the clearest format for tenders and legal bundles because it shows the bundle is complete.
- Start from can be set to 0 if a cover page should not count, or to any number to continue a previous volume.
- Numbers are drawn into the page, so they print and cannot be switched off by the recipient.
- Files up to 10 MB or 50 pages on Free, 100 MB or 1000 pages on Pro; one numbering run is one PDF operation.
Who uses the add page numbers
Government and PSU tenders
A Bhubaneswar electrical contractor numbers a 120-page bid as Page n of 120 because the tender notice requires every page to be numbered and initialled.
Legal and arbitration bundles
A law office paginates the exhibits attached to a recovery notice so the counsel can cite page numbers.
Audit files
A CA numbers the merged set of a client's purchase bills before filing them with the GSTR-3B working sheet so queries can reference a page.
Training manuals and SOPs
A cloud kitchen numbers its SOP PDF so kitchen staff can be told which page to follow.
Add Page Numbers: frequently asked questions
- Can I start page numbering from a number other than 1?
- Yes. Enter the number in Start from. If a tender is split into two volumes and volume one ends at page 95, set volume two to start from 96 so the whole bid reads continuously. Setting 0 lets a cover page be excluded from the count.
- Will page numbers overlap the text on my pages?
- The number sits in a small margin at the chosen position. Pick a corner or edge that is empty on your pages; for invoices with footers, top right usually works. Check the download and rerun with a different position if it overlaps.
- Does Page {n} of {total} update if I merge more files later?
- No. The numbers are drawn into the pages at the time you run the tool. If you add or remove pages afterwards, run Add Page Numbers again on the final file. Number the document last, just before signing.
- Can I add numbers to only some pages?
- Not selectively; every page is numbered. To skip a cover page from the count, set Start from to 0 so the cover shows 0 and the first content page shows 1, or split the cover off, number the rest, and merge again.
- Are page numbers accepted on tender and court submissions?
- Yes. Numbers drawn into the page content are the same as printed numbers and are what tender notices mean by 'all pages numbered'. Many notices also require a signature or initial on each page, which Add Signature to PDF can place after numbering.
