About the password protect pdf tool
Financial documents move over WhatsApp and email every day: salary slips to employees, bank statements to a loan officer, Aadhaar and PAN copies to a landlord, Form 16 to a tax filer. Any of these forwarded to the wrong group is a serious problem. Banks and payroll providers already send password-protected PDFs for this reason. Password Protect PDF lets you do the same with any file, using AES-256 encryption.
Compressing a file into a password-protected zip is the usual workaround, but many phones cannot open encrypted zips and the file is unprotected once extracted. A PDF password stays with the document. VyaparKit sets an open password (minimum 4 characters) and, if you tick Disallow printing, an owner restriction that blocks printing in compliant viewers. The receiver opens it in any PDF reader by typing the password.
This is usually the final step. Generate a salary slip or outstanding statement, sign or watermark it, then protect it before sharing. Share the password separately, for example by voice or a different channel. Remove PDF Password reverses the process when you know the password and want an unlocked working copy.

Limits and formats
- Encryption is AES-256, the strongest standard PDF viewers support; the file cannot be opened without the password.
- VyaparKit does not keep the password or the file, so a lost password means a lost document; keep the unprotected original safely.
- Disallow printing sets an owner permission; most viewers honour it, but it is a restriction rather than encryption and can be bypassed by software that ignores permissions.
- Use a password the receiver can type on a phone: 8 or more characters, avoid characters that are hard to find on mobile keyboards.
- Common conventions for employee documents are PAN in capitals or date of birth as DDMMYYYY, as banks do, but tell the receiver the rule.
- Password-protected files cannot be merged, split or edited by other tools until unlocked; do this step last.
- Files up to 10 MB or 50 pages on Free, 100 MB or 1000 pages on Pro; one protect run is one PDF operation.

Password Protect PDF: frequently asked questions
- What encryption does Password Protect PDF use?
- AES-256, the current standard for PDF encryption and the same level used by banks for statement PDFs. Without the password the content cannot be read. All common readers, including phone viewers, Chrome, Adobe Reader and Preview, can open AES-256 protected files.
- What happens if I forget the password I set?
- The file cannot be opened, and VyaparKit cannot help because we neither store the password nor the file. Keep the original unprotected PDF in a safe place and write the password down. Remove PDF Password works only when you know the current password.
- Can the receiver save or print my protected PDF?
- Once they enter the open password they can read it in any viewer. If you ticked Disallow printing, standard viewers block printing. Saving a copy is still possible, and the copy stays password protected. Treat restrictions as a deterrent rather than absolute control.
- Should I send the password in the same WhatsApp message as the file?
- No. Send it through a different channel, such as a phone call, SMS or an agreed rule like 'your PAN in capitals'. If both the file and the password are in one chat, anyone who sees the chat can open the document.
- Is a password-protected PDF accepted by banks and portals?
- Generally, no. Most portals and many bank email systems cannot process encrypted attachments and will reject or ignore them. Protect PDFs for person-to-person sharing; for portal uploads, submit the unprotected file over the portal's own secure connection.
- Does protecting a PDF also compress it?
- No. Encryption does not change the file size in any meaningful way. Run Compress PDF first if you need a smaller file, then protect the compressed result, since protected files cannot be processed by the other tools.
