About the redact pdf tool
Documents shared for one purpose often reveal more than needed. A bank statement sent to a landlord shows every transaction. A supplier invoice forwarded to a customer shows your purchase price. An Aadhaar copy given to a hotel exposes the full 12-digit number, which UIDAI recommends masking. Drawing a black box in an image editor or a PDF annotation tool hides the content on screen but leaves the text in the file, where a copy-paste or a curious viewer reveals it. Redact PDF removes it for good.
VyaparKit performs true redaction. You draw one or more boxes on the page preview; when you click Redact & download, the text, images and vector content within each box are deleted from the page and replaced by a solid black area. Selecting the redacted region afterwards yields nothing, and the removed data does not survive in the file's metadata or content streams. It works on text-based PDFs and on scanned pages alike, since the image pixels under the box are removed.

Open the downloaded file and try selecting text in a redacted area; nothing should be selectable. The original is not kept, so keep your own unredacted copy.
Tips for a good result
- Draw boxes slightly larger than the text so descenders and the edge of a number are fully covered; content is removed for the whole box area.
- Aadhaar: UIDAI recommends sharing a masked Aadhaar showing only the last four digits; redact the first eight digits on every place they appear, including the QR code if it is present.
- Bank details: redact the account number and IFSC in headers, footers and transaction lines, not just the summary box.
- Check every page; statements repeat the account number in the header of each page.
- Redaction is irreversible in the output file, and VyaparKit does not keep the original, so keep your own unredacted copy.

Redact PDF: frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between redaction and drawing a black box?
- A black box drawn in most editors is a shape placed on top of the content; the text is still in the file and can be copied, searched or exposed by deleting the shape. Redaction removes the content itself from the page and then paints the black area. VyaparKit does true redaction, so the underlying data is gone.
- Can redacted information be recovered from the PDF?
- No. The text, image pixels and vector content inside each box are deleted from the page's content stream before the file is saved. There is no hidden layer to remove. The only way to recover it is from your original unredacted copy, which VyaparKit does not keep.
- Does redaction work on scanned PDFs and photos?
- Yes. On a scanned page the image pixels under the box are removed rather than merely covered, so the redacted region contains no data. Draw the box carefully around the printed number, since a scan has no text layer to guide the selection.
- Which digits of Aadhaar should I hide?
- UIDAI's masked Aadhaar format shows only the last four digits, so redact the first eight. If the copy includes the Aadhaar QR code, redact that too, because the QR encodes the full number. The name, photo and address can remain visible when the recipient needs them.
- Can I redact text by searching for a word?
- Not in the current tool; redaction is by drawn area. For a statement with the account number repeated on every page, draw a box over the header on each page. Zoom the browser for precise placement on small text.
- Is a redacted bank statement accepted by banks and embassies?
- Usually yes for proof of income or address, provided the account holder name, statement period, balances and the transactions relevant to the purpose are visible. Some lenders require full unredacted statements; check the requirement before redacting so you do not have to resubmit.
